WNET 13 Kids Science and Geography Program

Clement Pisnoy -ED 38 - 3/2/09

Franny's Feet is a children's program on channel 13 about a girl who encounters adventures regarding global travel where she meets friends and solves problems: problems like global awareness, science, and vocabulary development, which are interwoven with storytelling that provides an informing and entertaining learning experience. An example episode is where Franny travels to India, and she learns how to make shadow puppets. This relates to light and physics. According to Sandra Sheppard, executive producer of kid's educational programming, she said, "Kids are really drawn to Franny - she's a spunky, adventurous girl who is a great role model for both boys and girls...It's a wonderfully captivating and charming way for pre-schoolers to discover other worlds and cultures." A typical episode involves a scenario where Franny helps her Grandpa in a shoe repair shop, and she slips on a pair of shoes and says "Where will my feet take me today...?" The adventure begins when she is transported to the far reaches of the globe after trying on the shoes.
